Engaging with and reassuring communities

The East Riding is already a very safe place to live, work and play. As well as making communities safer, the partnership aims to make them stronger, by enabling them to be more actively involved in addressing local problems.

This is done through the following measures:

Neighbourhood Action Teams (NATS)
NATs are community groups that work with the local police to reduce crime and disorder within their local areas.

Strategic targets to be achieved by 2007/08:

To increase the proportion of people who feel safe in the areas where they live
To increase the numbers of people who contribute to decision making about reducing crime, disorder and drug misuse in their areas.
To continue activity to disrupt local drug markets
To achieve a sanction detection rate of 20%
To increase the percentage of notifiable /recorded offences resulting in conviction, caution or being taken into consideration at court.
To reduce theft from the person by 3%
To reduce theft or unauthorised taking of a pedal cycle by 6%

Progress towards these targets is monitored through the local 'Police Recorded Crime Figures' and 'Police figures for offences brought to justice.'
