Pocklington and District Pubwatch

Working in partnership with HUMBERSIDE POLICE and ERYC SAFE COMMUNITIES

Next meeting

Thursday 18 February 2010 at 10:00am in The Feathers, Pocklington

The Pubwatch is a voluntary organisation made up of licensees within the Pocklington district. The main aim of Pubwatch is to create a safe drinking environment for customers by keeping trouble causers and illegal drugs out of licensed  premises. The Pocklington and District Pubwatch  has a current membership of 26 licensed premises  detailed under the MEMBERSHIP link.  The Pocklington district is a predominantly rural area with many isolated village pubs.  It is hoped that licensees of these premises will find this web site particularly useful to keep up to date with current Pubwatch issues.

The licensees meet regularly with the police to discuss incidents that have occurred in and around their premises. The licensees then decide what action to take against any identified offenders. The usual penalty is a ban from all participating licensed premises.

The length of ban will depend on the circumstances and severity of the incident. For minor incidents of bad behaviour, the licensees can decide to send a “yellow card letter” to the offender warning them that any repetition of that behaviour will result in them being banned.

A current list of banned persons can be found under the RESOURCES link. Any banned person on the list who attempts to gain entry to any participating licensed premises WILL have their ban extended.

Appealing against a ban

Any person on the banned list who wants to appeal against their ban can write a letter addressed to Pocklington and District Pubwatch giving their reasons why they think the ban should be lifted . It should be then either posted to any of the Pocklington town centre licensed premises or Pocklington Police Station and will be discussed at the next meeting. The writer will then be informed of the outcome.

The success of the Pocklington and District Pubwatch is down to the licensees working collectively and sharing information for the benefit of everyone in the area. The simple message from the licensees to all of their customers is “BEHAVE YOURSELF OR YOU WILL BE BANNED”.

Pocklington Pubwatch is an independant community group aimed at reducing crime and disorder in the area. The group is assisted by Humberside Police and East Riding of Yorkshire Council's Safe Communities but decisions are only made by its members independant of any public authority.
